Fee Schedule
Generally, our first step is to discuss your matter (in very general terms) by telephone, collect pertinent information about you, any opposing party and the status of the matter, to enable us to run a conflict of interest check. The next step, assuming no conflict of interest exists, would be to conduct a free case evaluation by telephone (or at our office as we deem necessary), lasting no longer than 15 minutes. The purpose of the case evaluation is for us to obtain relevant information about your legal issues, deadlines and goals. If we decide that we are able and willing to represent you, we will typically present you with an engagement letter/fee agreement that will govern the terms of our attorney-client relationship. The fee agreement must be signed and returned to this office, along with any required retainer or flat fee associated with your case, before we will commence representation.
It is our standard practice to deposit client funds and unearned fees (that are not expected to earn "net interest" as defined under the Maine Bar Rules) into a pooled, insured IOLTA trust account. Interest earned on the funds deposited into the IOLTA trust account is paid to the Maine Bar Foundation, a non-profit corporation established to increase access to justice for indigent and vulnerable populations, and to support, encourage, and implement the legal profession's commitment to law-related public service.
All attorney time is currently billed at $165 per hour and accounted for in tenths of an hour by invoice. Invoices are typically mailed at least every month (or at such earlier intervals as we deem appropriate) and prompt payment is expected. We accept payment by cash, personal checks, money order and credit card (Visa and MasterCard).
We offer flat fees for our legal services in a wide range of legal matters. The flat fees listed below for legal services do not include court costs, filing fees, recording fees, research costs, travel costs and any other out-of-pocket cost incurred by this office in your matter, which costs and fees must be paid by the client in addition to the particular flat fee for legal services. The flat fees listed also do not include time spent to revise initial draft documents (unless such revisions are minimal in our opinion), time spent negotiating such revisions, and any time spent communicating with the client, opposing party or other relevant third parties, which time (at the attorney hourly rate) must be paid for by the client in addition to the particular flat fee for legal services. Where the dollar amount is followed by the symbol "R+" on the chart, the stated amount is considered the minimum initial retainer required to commence representation and not a flat fee, in which case time spent on the matter will be billed by the hour (at the attorney hourly rate) as discussed above.
The amounts listed below are typical flat fees offered, however, depending upon the specific circumstances of your case, we reserve the right to deviate from the listed amounts below as we deem appropriate. The information contained herein is for informational purposes only, the hourly rate and flat fees listed herein are subject to change at any time without prior notice and are not binding upon this office. The terms and conditions of any attorney-client relationship, including payment of attorney's fees, shall be governed by the fee agreement and not any terms or provisions listed on this website.
